What is the Centre Grey Hospital in Markdale?
Founded in the late 1920’s, the Centre Grey Hospital is a 21-bed, community-based Hospital located in Markdale, Ontario. The Hospital provides care to over 20,000 people living in Grey Highlands, Southgate, West Grey, Chatsworth and the villages of Dundalk, Flesherton, and Markdale. The Centre Grey Hospital is now amalgamated with 5 other hospital sites as part of Grey Bruce Health Services.

Why is the Centre Grey Hospital important to the community?
The Centre Grey Hospital provides emergency and ongoing care to patients facing injuries and illnesses. You can feel secure in the knowledge that quality medical services are available when required for children, adults and seniors.

What health services does the Hospital provide?
Grey Bruce Health Services Markdale provides a full range of medical services including 24-hour emergency care, acute hospital care, palliative care, day surgery, obstetrics, diagnostic imaging, physiotherapy, and laboratory services for the community. Visiting specialists provide orthopedic, plastic and general surgical care. Clinical nutrition, foot and eye clinics, and diabetes care are examples of the diverse services available.

How is the Hospital funded?
Operational funding for the Hospital is funded by the Ontario Ministry of Health and Long Term Care through the Grey Bruce Health Services Corporation. The Centre Grey Hospital has an annual budget of $4 million.

How many staff members are there at the Hospital?
The Hospital is one of the leading employers in the region with 83 full and part-time staff members including 46 nurses and 35 specialists who work in the areas of:

  • Diagnostic Imaging
  • Laboratory
  • Physiotherapy
  • Speech Pathology
  • Diabetic Education
  • Health Records
  • Food Services
  • Housekeeping
  • Pharmacy
  • Maintenance

In addition, 6 physicians and many visiting specialists have privileges at the Hospital.

Is there an Auxiliary associated with the Hospital?
Yes. More than 80 volunteers participate in the Centre Grey Hospital Auxiliary which has provided faithful service on behalf of local healthcare for over 50 years.
