BRIGHTSHORES HEALTH SYSTEM AND THE FIVE FOUNDATIONS

Brightshores Health System operates as six hospital sites that are located in the Grey Bruce region with the vision to offer Quality Health Care, Right Here.  There are 1,600 dedicated and compassionate staff, 250 physicians and 1,000 volunteers who work together to deliver excellent patient care to residents and visitors across Grey Bruce.

The Regional Hospital in Owen Sound is the largest site, and offers a full range of specialty services, including complex surgeries, total joint replacements, cancer surgeries, MRI and CT diagnostic services. Across the six hospitals, there are more than 100,000 patient visits per year.

The rural hospitals in Lion's Head, Markdale, Meaford, Southampton and Wiarton offer a wide range of primary and ambulatory care services and all have 24/7 Emergency departments.

Five Foundations

Five Foundations logos

In order to provide quality health care when it matters most, Brightshores Health System relies on the generosity of members in the communities being served by these Five Foundations;

  • Bruce Peninsula Health Services Foundation
  • Centre Grey Health Services Foundation
  • Meaford Hospital Foundation
  • Saugeen Regional Hospital Foundation
  • Brightshores Health System Owen Sound Foundation.

Across the six hospital sites (Lions Head, Wiarton, Markdale, Meaford, Southampton and Owen Sound), GBHS requires approximately $20 Million annually to keep its facilities and equipment up to date.  Although the Government will pay for the operation of the equipment, the cost of purchasing any equipment/capital is the responsibility of the communities.  Each Foundation pays for equipment and upgrades at its local hospital, and also contributes to larger, regional services used by residents across Grey and Bruce counties.  Each Foundation recognizes the importance of supporting our regional hospital in order to keep specialized care, advanced diagnostics, stroke centre, cancer care, etc.  close to home.

Each year a Capital List of the highest priority equipment needs of Brightshores Health System is presented to the Five Foundations with a request for funding. It includes priorities specific to each of the six Brightshores Hospitals, as well as Corporate and Regional needs. Each of the Five Foundations work in partnership with Brightshores to provide funding assistance to Brightshores to keep our health care current, and close to home.
