On Saturday, November 12th, Centre Grey Health Services Foundation held its second annual Charity Bonspiel at the Markdale Golf and Curling Club. The Foundation is very pleased to report that the charity event raised over $3,900 for the Foundation, which will go towards the purchase of new beds at Centre Grey Hospital.
This first spiel of the season, billed as a social event, brought together retired curlers, regular curlers and new curlers. For some this was their first experience with the sport; no problem! A half-hour clinic was provided for the new curlers and the teams took it from there and had a fun day. The draw consisted of three 4-end games for each team. First place was won by the Dundalk District Credit Union team; second place was won by Joe Ewing’s team and the Feversham & District Kinsmen team won third place.
Curlers came from Feversham, Dundalk, Kitchener and Markdale to take part and made this a very enjoyable bonspiel. There was no prize for enthusiastic participation but Sidekick’s Café’s team of new curlers, and Jennifer Hutton’s team from Kitchener, deserves special mention for their showing throughout the day. The day was topped off with a delicious dinner buffet provided by the Markdale Curling Club staff, followed by the awards ceremony and prize presentations for all participating teams.
Plans are already underway for next year’s bonspiel, which will take place in November 2012.
A big thank you to everyone who participated in the bonspiel, to those who provided sponsorships and to everyone who donated prizes – your support of the Foundation in its fundraising efforts is very much appreciated!
