Dear Friend of Centre Grey Hospital, December 2006:
I want to tell you about the excellent progress being made to rebuild Centre Grey Hospital.
Most of you will know that our fundraising campaign was a success. The goal of the campaign was to raise $12,000,000. The campaign closed on August 31, 2005 with a total of $13,200,000 committed. Money pledged is coming in regularly.
Planning for the new hospital is proceeding steadily. In May, Honorable George Smitherman, Minister of Health and Long Term Care toured Centre Grey Hospital and announced a planning grant of $3,000,000 for the new hospital. To date, Grey-Bruce Health Services has received $900,000 as an initial payment to cover ongoing planning. Functional planning, led by RPG Consultants, has been underway since May and is scheduled to be completed by the end of 2006.
In October, Cohos-Evamy, a team of architects was selected to design the new hospital and Genivar, an engineering firm, was hired to provide project management. Planning will proceed in stages with Ministry approval being required at each stage. The goal is to file final plans with the Ministry of Health and Long Term Care by the end of August 2007. Grey Bruce Health Services will then be looking for approval to proceed to let the tender and commence building.
This is a very aggressive agenda for the planning of a new hospital; one that would normally require about 24 months. Everyone is working collaboratively to meet this timeline. Staff of the Ministry of Health and Long Term Care have been very supportive. Under these circumstances we are optimistic about an early start to construction of a new hospital.
A public meeting is being planned for late January or early February to bring everyone up to date on progress with this project.
Thank you for your ongoing support.
Best wishes and good health in 2007.
Dan Rose, Chair
Centre Grey Health Services Foundation
