Organizers of the “6th Annual CKNX Health Care Heroes Radiothon are excited to announce the number of hospitals participating in the event has grown by two. Sue Paterson of Hanover, Chair of the organizing committee, announced Saugeen Memorial Hospital Foundation in Southampton and Centre Grey Health Services Foundation in Markdale will be participating in this year’s event bringing the total number of hospitals to 14. This year’s event is scheduled for Saturday, October 20, 2007.
In the first five years in excess of $2.8 million was raised to support health care in the hospitals of participating foundations. The final total for Radiothon 2006 was $773,970 – an astounding show of support for our hospitals.
Sue Paterson, Foundation Co-ordinator of the Hanover and District Hospital Foundation commented, “We are extremely excited this year as the Radiothon is going to be huge — take a common cause, add a generous radio station and mix with not 12 but 14 southwestern Ontario hospital foundations. The result is a strong united force that will improve local health care”.
Scott Pettigrew, Program Director for CKNX AM 920 added, “It is exciting we can be part of an event that impacts almost every community in our listening area.”
The Foundations that will participate this year support hospitals in Chesley, Clinton, Durham, Goderich, Hanover, Kincardine, Listowel, Markdale, Mount Forest, Palmerston, Seaforth, Southampton, Walkerton and Wingham.
The Ministry of Health and Long Term Care does not fully fund buildings and equipment for our hospitals. Raising funds is an ongoing necessity if we wish to maintain and improve our quality of health care. The Centre Grey Health Services Foundation will use its portion of the funds raised by this year’s Radiothon for a new operating room table, replacing the current one purchased in 1948(!).
